Accessories for Baby Strollers

There are many accessories available for all types of baby strollers. Some of the more popular Baby Stroller Accessories are listed here:

Baby stroller mirrors: Attach a mirror to the baby stroller to keep an eye on your baby.

Baby stroller rain covers and hoods: Rain covers and hoods are plastic sheaths that make sure your baby doesn't get wet (at least from the rain). Some cover the entire baby stroller, down to the wheels.

Tote bags: Tote bags make it easy to carry a collapsible baby stroller anywhere.

Baby stroller insect netting: Keep bugs off your baby with fine mesh coverings that let in fresh air.

Baby stroller parasols: Makers like Bugaboo offer parasols that attach to most baby strollers to shield babies from bright sun and glare.

Baby stroller holders and baskets: Attachable trays, drink holders, and carrying baskets are available for many baby stroller models. These let you carry baby supplies, personal items, or provisions on long walks. Carrying baskets should attach low on the baby stroller frame to keep it balanced. As a general safety rule, never attach or place heavy items high and off-center or the baby stroller may tip.

Baby stroller toys: Dangling activity arches and snap-on play panels attach to baby strollers, placing colorful doings within reach of tiny passengers. Many of these travel toys use Velcro or clips and can also be used with car seats and cribs, as well as many models and types of strollers. Baby stroller toys from companies like Fisher-Price and Tiny Love are readily available on eBay.

Baby stroller cushions and padding: Many baby strollers come with removable headrests and padding. You can also find baby headrests specifically designed for use in baby strollers.

Adjustable baby stroller handles: If your baby stroller doesn't come with adjustable handle height, you can add handle extensions to accommodate different pushers.

Soccer Cleats: To Stud Or Not To Stud

Soccer boots, only correctly called cleats when they have the ground gripping teeth on the bottom of the shoe, have always been fodder for debate, among those who believe the screw in stud to be better than the molded teeth for traction or reliability. Many of the modern changes to soccer boots has come more from concerned parents, demanding the safest footwear for their young players, than it has from professional players, as might be believed.

There are basically three different types of soccer boots available, those being molded cleats, screw in studs, and these called 'astros' which are designed especially for use on astro turf. A good molded cleat is probably the best beginner boot, if play is to be on grass. They are easy to care for, and hitting them against each other or a wall will knock off most muddy, grassy build-up. Other than that, a rinse with warm water, and allowing them to thoroughly dry before wearing again will provide for about all the care these durable cleats will need.

If finances allow, it is wise to have two pairs of these soccer cleats for your young player, to insure one is thoroughly dry before re-wearing it. In the case of tournaments, where 3 or more games are played in a singe weekend, it is a great relief for those hard working feet to have fresh boots to put on. It is wise to note here that soccer slides, or sandals, are a very important item in the soccer bag. If the cleats are worn on hard surfaces for any length, the cleats will wear or break off much quicker than normal field use would cause.

When your player is ready to try screw in studs make certain they are fully prepared for the additional maintaince these boots will typically require. The simple cleaning of them is much the same as other molded boots, however, the screw in studs, or cleats, is where the care of these soccer boots makes a real difference in the performance they will afford the player.

The studs are available in plastic or metal, and it may be wise to determine which is allowed on your field, particularly if it is for youth play, prior to making your choice. It is possible that the sanctioning body at your playing fields may not allow screw in studs at all.

After you have made the decision to purchase soccer cleats with screw in studs, and have determined that the playing fields in your area do allow them, go to a sporting goods store that knows soccer, and has sales associates who will take the time to ensure your player gets a good, snug fit. This would be true even in the molded cleats, of course. Make certain the studs are screwed in tightly, and always carry extra studs in the soccer bag.

Inspecting the studs as the cleats are cleaned and put away after a match will prove wise, and help prevent a lost stud during a game. Never continue to play with a missing stud, it is harmful to the overall stability of the player, and can easily distort the hole so a new stud may not fit properly when replacing it is finally attempted. At first break in the game, replace the missing stud.

Astros are easy to care for, and can be used on grassy or hard surfaces. Basic cleaning is similar to the molded cleats.

Football Board Games

Football board games are made to, for obvious reasons, simulate a real football game. Why play a board game when people can play the game? Board games are less strenuous, and it is a good way to make people talk. These are three most popular types of football board games:

The Pizza Box Football

The Pizza Box Football was invented by the brothers Erik and Scott Smith when they were still kids. They seriously developed it for almost 10 years before finally releasing it in 2005. As children, the Smiths pictured a football game that generates stats that are realistic, keeps all of the football's strategic elements, and still entertains people of all ages.

Pizza Box Football employs head-to-head play calling. The game starts with a decision on what play to call. The basic options for a play are Run, Short Pass or Long Pass. The players begin the battle by playing rock-paper-scissors to determine who has the advantage. Each participant will have to roll the dice to see how the team fared in the play call. Results are then read in the charts. The dice roll of the defending team can change how their opponents cope in the game. When the offense rolls, both teams get to see action.

The Battle Ball

The Battle Ball is a fun game for players who do not want to take things seriously. It is basically a eer-and-pretzels game where football players are represented by plastic figures. An advantage of the Battle Ball is that it is a well-designed game set with durable plastic game pieces.

The Battle Ball football board game is a fast-paced game that should be taken lightly. Since the Battle Ball is dependent on dice rolls, strategic planning doesn't really play a huge part.

The Card Football

Finally, another type of a football board game is the Card Football. Participants in this game begin with five cards in hand from the deck. Players play their cards simultaneously. The player who has the highest hand or card carries out the play that is shown on the card. The offensive's goal is to acquire as many points as possible, whereas the defense tries to stop him by creating turnovers. As soon as each down has been performed, both of them get another set of five cards.

The key in Card Football is not strategy but efficient hand management. Players need to decide what cards to keep and which ones to play. Although this is a game of luck, it is important that players know their own cards.

Michigan To Hold Mass Foreclosure Sale

More than 250 homes in Michigan will be included in a mass auction, a testimony of hard times for the state and its residents.

Many Michigan homeowners have had a hard time keeping up with mortgage payments, partly due to devastating lay-offs in the auto industry. Michigan has seen a 25% increase in mortgage defaults in the last year, making it one of the hardest hit states in the country.

The homes up for auction are single-family bank-owned homes, condos and duplexes. The majority of the homes are located within 60 miles of Detroit. Prices are expected to be between $15,000 and $450,000.

Prospective bidders can go online to view the homes.

Across the country, defaults are currently on the rise. Industry experts say that the increases in interest rates, slowing appreciation and reversal of a formerly strong market has left many homeowners with little choice but to default.

Advisors have warned against many nontraditional loan options in the past few years. There are two main causes against low rate adjustable-rate mortgages and option ARMs. The first is that when the rate resets, the payment can often double in size. Many homeowners are stretching to get into the home in the first place. They find that they are unable to make the payment.

This is when the second factor comes into play. Due to the structuring of the mortgage -- where most, and with option ARMs all -- of the first years of payments go to the interest portion of the bill. Those who put little or no money down and haven't lived in the home for ten years are left with very little equity in the home. If the price hasn't had time to appreciate, they may be unable to sell the home for what they owe on it. With no money to bring to closing, they are forced to default on the mortgage.

Speak The Buyer's Language When Selling Your Property

As odd as it may sound, homebuyers and sellers speak different languages when evaluating properties. If you are selling, it is time to become bilingual.

Speak The Buyers Language When Selling Your Property

As a seller of a real estate property, it is important that you remember the process you went through when buying your home. What was your motivation? What was you biggest fear? What where the less obvious things you were concerned about? How did you evaluate the home? How much could you afford to spend given your financial condition? The answers to all of these questions are critical and a seller must keep them in mind if they hope to sell their home.

One of the biggest mistakes sellers make is failing to put themselves into the shoes of potential buyers. In marketing, the fundamental axiom is that a business should know their audience. In practical terms, this means a business has to know what its buyers need and the language they use in expressing those needs and finding solutions.

As a simple example, a mortgage company refers to a home equity loan as a HELOC. The company, however, does not use such a term in its advertising because most of its potential clients either do not use the term or do not know what it means. When selling your home, you need to keep this in mind.

One area where sellers can learn the language of the buyer and smooth out the process is pricing. As a seller, you think in the language of total price, to wit, how many hundreds of thousands of dollars I can get for the property. In the buyer?s language, however, the issue is not so much the total price as it is the monthly payment on a mortgage. In your advertising, you can get much more traction if you list the price and an estimate of the monthly payment.

This thought process should translate throughout your selling efforts. You should be prepared to talk about the appreciation rate in your neighborhood, why your property is a steal in the neighborhood, statistics and rankings on schools in the area and so on. Simply put, you must have the information the buyer is looking for in evaluating your home.

For most homeowners, it has not been a particularly long time since they went through the buying process. If you can recall your thoughts and concerns during those days, you can use such information to help provide buyers with information and sell your home.

The Legacy Of An Extreme Makeover

If someone had told me this story, I wouldn?t have believed it. But from the get-go, I was a witness and before the beginning had become yesterday?s news, my best friend and I observed the metamorphosis of Paula ? Pudgy Paula, we called her which wasn?t kind but hey, between us, Best Friend and I prefer straight talk.

Pudgy Paula and Chunky Charlene were friends, not exactly bosom buddies but they were endowed with the obvious qualifications and one day, excited because their English term papers received the highest marks, they hugged. The class clown who considered himself a wag could not stifle the urge to blurt out his observation, Look! Bosom buddies! Of course, Pudgy Paula and Chunky Charlene blushed, squealed, and ran in opposite directions. They were of a certain age that bursts easily into tears. They were not quite 16.

But the bosom buddies jibe became the catalyst for Pudgy Paula and Chunky Charlene to lose weight. Because diets are boring to follow and tiring to hear about (especially the banning of cheesecake in all its succulent variations), I?ll cut to the chase. After four months of calisthenics and counting calories, Chunky Charlene was no more. From out of a cocoon of baby fat, she emerged a butterfly ? lithe and curvy, a poster teen brimming confidence. She glided and whirled. She tossed her hair. She drove the boys nuts.

Pudgy Paula came down one size, all over. She had a waist but not by much. Her body was well-toned but it didn?t stimulate boys? fantasies because she did not fit their idealized image of a sexy girl. Paula was not the itsy-bitsy bikini type. She was a solid citizen, a dependable friend, and not a happy camper. When she walked, she didn?t skim over the earth; she plodded. Paula was down in the dumps.

She sank lower when she tried out for the softball team. Charlene made the cut because the coach could detect a latent talent capable of development. But Paula was another story. She couldn?t hit. She couldn?t throw. She couldn?t catch. She couldn?t run. The coach appointed her assistant manager and made her responsible for the oversized cooler and its contents ? an energy drink of debatable nutritional distinction. Paula lavished attention on the jug, keeping it stocked and chilled, and spotlessly hygienic. But her shoulders sagged and her eyes were lusterless.

At the second game, an error gave birth to a makeover of extreme distinction. A solid hit into foul territory clipped the manager?s left knee and put her on the ground, writhing with pain. Word came back from the ER that following surgery, she would be on crutches for the rest of the season. The coach promoted Paula to manager. At first she was tentative. The makeover began when the coach handed her a clipboard. Paula accepted it; holding it by one corner, letting it hang down beside her leg. The coach asked her to make a note about sending flowers to the injured girl. Paula brought the clipboard up to where she could write on it, made the notation, and instead of letting the clipboard return to its ignominious lower level, she embraced the clipboard. So help me, it became part of her. I could see self-confidence coursing through her body. She stood taller. Her shoulders squared. Her eyes focused. She not only had a new job, everything about her body language proclaimed that she had a mission and, by golly, she would be the finest manager the softball team had ever had.

I said to Best Friend, Chunky-no-more Paula has found her raison d?! Get a load of the clipboard dynamics!

Yeah, she said. Authority speaks!

Throughout games and practices, she gripped the clipboard. Sometimes, the clipboard seemed to be attached to her. She consulted the forms it held; she made entries; she made notes. She was efficient. She was happy. Before our eyes, Paula had become a different girl.

She celebrated the intoxicating elation of feeling she belonged by stopping at a bakery where she chose a slice of key lime cheesecake, its filling the authentic sallow, pale yellow hue of real key limes, and whose flavor was just sweet enough not to be too sour, and sour enough not to be too sweet. She savored every bite.

Paula, I overheard Charlene say, aren?t you afraid you?ll gain back the weight you lost?

Nope.

And she never did. I?ve known her for 30 years; Best Friend and I were her bridal attendants. Charlene was her maid of honor. And except when she was pregnant, Paula?s weight never has fluctuated more than two or three pounds. She eats whatever she likes, and that includes cheesecake. She?s a handsome, confident, purposeful woman, thanks to a makeover that began from within.

How Long Should Your Child Stay In A 5Point Harness Car Seat?

By now, nearly every parent with an Internet connection has heard of the sad video that came out on YouTube.com in November 2006, urging all parents of toddlers to keep their kids in a car seat with a 5-point harness as opposed to graduating them to booster seat attached with a regular seat belt.

The video was an emotional succession of photos with interspersed screens of text and music playing throughout. For those who missed it, message contained in the video started with:

I'd like you to meet my son Kyle.
Kyle was 3 years old when he was killed because an incompetent driver ran a red light and hit our mini-van at an intersection on May 29th 2005.
Kyle was in a booster seat, wearing his seatbelt when we were hit.
We thought he was protected...
Seatbelts are supposed to work? 100% of the time... right?
Well they don't.
Seatbelts frequently fail by either unlatching or not tightening upon impact. Kyle's seatbelt was buckled but came unlatched upon impact.
His big sister was sitting right next to him in an identical booster, but her seatbelt worked and she walked away.
The only difference was that her seat belt worked and his didn't...
Seatbelts are wonderful things, when they work...
There is something that could have prevented Kyle's death though...

According to Kyle's mother, a car seat with a 5-point harness could have saved the child's life. She even goes as far as recommending a specific car seat model suitable for older children (the Britax Regent) and encouraging viewers to learn from [our loss by keepikng older children in a car seat with a 5-point harness.

Ever since this heart wrenching video came out, many parents all over the country have rushed to move their children from a booster seat back into what is essentially a giant car seat: the Britax Regent. This sudden surge in demand has even caused the manufacturer to be back ordered for several month.

Is this an over-reaction? Another group of parents believes it is: In their opinion, seatbelt failures are very rare and certainly not as common as the video claims. In addition, they point out that the latch system used to attach a car seat can not be used above 48 pounds in most vehicles, which means that the car seat must be attached by a regular seat belt, just like a booster seat would be.

The full transcript of the video including the reference to the Britax Regent car seat can be found here

Alternative Breast Cancer Therapies

Jenny is a 42 year old mother of three. Being a housewife is quite easy especially when the kids are at school and the husband is at work. The rest of the day is spent cleaning the house and doing the laundry with an hour to spare at the local gym.

After taking a shower, Jenny felt some pain the breast. This could be just menopause symptom so there was no need to worry. The pain got worse the next few days and sensing this was something else, finally decided to visit the doctor.

The doctor was a family friend. The initial diagnosis was done by touching the breast followed by a scan using a mammogram.

There were a lot of cancer cells present so another test had to be done. The doctor had to be sure so a sample was extracted and sent to a pathologist for analysis. After testing, it was only then that a woman?s greatest fear has become a reality. Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer and this was already on the 3rd stage.

The third stage means the cancer has grown to more than 5 cm. in size and has spread to other parts of the body. This leaves removing the breast useless since the disease can no longer be contained.

Can there still be hope for Jenny who is already in the advanced stage of breast cancer? The truth is, the chances of recovery are very difficult.

Being informed of breast cancer is a shocking experience. There were some initial signs of disbelief then acceptance. The doctor explained everything to Jenny including the treatments available and the survival rates.

This was going to be Jenny?s greatest battle and this was just the beginning of a long struggle.

Chemotherapy was the best option now. The drugs produced some side effects like nausea and skin rashes but Jenny just thought this was short term since there is something bigger growing inside the needed to be killed.

Both Jenny and the doctor went ahead with removing the breast with a procedure called a mastectomy. Since modern medicine can have this reconstructed, this was a small price to pay. To make sure that all the cells had been wiped out, radiation therapy followed.

Jenny was happy to hear that the cancer was gone nearly a year after the diagnosis was done. Some people say this was a miracle since the battle which had taken so much was finally won. There was a huge party and everyone who prayed and supported were there to celebrate a second chance at life.

The doctor pointed out that the cancer can recur. This is the reason that Jenny still had to visit the clinic often for therapy and tests to make sure everything was wiped out.

Advanced breast cancer is sometimes hard to tell. A self examination at home is not enough which is why the patient should go to the doctor for a checkup once or twice a year.

There are a lot of people who die of breast cancer and a significant number are also diagnosed every year. The person can fight hard like Jenny did or simply give up to the disease.

Until a cure is found, the only thing people can do is work on the options and hope that a miracle will happen.

Currency Exchange How This Affects Your Spanish Property Purchase

Currency market update 28th April 2006

US dollar continues fall, Sterling gains some ground on Euro

Sterling hit a new 7-month high against the dollar and rose to the day's highs against the euro on Friday after the release of a strong UK consumer confidence survey.

The Gfk consumer confidence index gave a reading of -4 in April, up from -7 in March, and above the forecast -6.

Earlier on Friday, the National Institute of Economic and Social Research revised up its growth forecast for 2006 to 2.5 percent from 2.3 percent predicted in January.

It has come in a bit stronger than expected, so it's been a reasonably bullish environment for sterling, but personally I am a bit more cautious than that, we are still in the rate cut camp, said James Knightley, economist at ING.

Sterling rose as far as $1.8079 by 0942 GMT, up a third of the percent on the day.

It also gained slightly to 1.4390.

In New York the dollar slipped on Friday, extending losses against a basket of major currencies into a sixth session after a report showing robust U.S. economic growth did little to overturn the market's view that interest rates are close to a peak.

The dollar edged lower after data showed the U.S. economy grew at a steady clip of 4.8 percent in the first quarter -- the fastest pace in two and a half years and broadly in line with expectations -- but inflationary pressures in the data were softer than expected. The euro rose to $1.2578, up from $1.2565 where it was before the data.

Learn The Basics Of Muscle Building At Home

The concept of exercise usually brings us an image of different machines which are used as the tools to exercise. But can we have muscle building without weights? The answer is yes, we can have good muscles even without using these state of the art machines. The simplicity of these exercises without making any special arrangement or going to gyms makes these exercises more appealing.

Legs

Nature has designed the legs of the human being that help in moving the body weight. It would not be advatageous to put extra strain on the human legs that could seriously threaten their potency or strength. If we look at the structure of human legs we can clearly see the movement is fluctuating which could be harmful if it is not practiced appropriately. Human legs are rigid in their bowing from one side to another.

The first important activity, in which muscle building without weights is highly possible, is to carry out leg exercises called squats which are very helpful in gaining rich muscles. This demands an activity that is of a recurrent nature so one can build muscle without using weights. This very activity of making muscle without using weights can be done in many ways. We have the one-legged squat, boots trappers, bleacher squats, wall sits, lunges, off bench lunges, renegade lunges, dragon twisting and backward lunges.

Core Exercises

It is very apparent from the title that these are something which belong to all the muscles of the middle part of the body which clearly include abdomen, transverse and oblique abdomini, etc. Core bodyweight conditioning is meaningless for ordinary and less intensive exercises. The most widely used exercise for muscle building without weights nowadays is gymnastics which has stiffer and harder exercises and provides more strength and vigor, physically and mentally.

If we take a decent look over these exercises, we can see that planche rejuvenates arms, legs, head and almost everything so that it shakes the whole body to increase the level of energy in it. Apart from this, we have other core exercises like manna progression, front lever, back lever, dragon flags, sit-ups, air bike, junda sit-ups, hanging leg raises, wheel rollout, Russian twist, stomach flatten, scissor kick, side kicks, plank, side bends and waist twist.

Pressing

Pressing is also a very effective exercise which imparts immense strength in the human body, some of the major exercises which we can carry out are: triceps, biceps, pectoral, pushups, elevated push-ups, twisting push up, planche push-up, handstand holds, handstand shrugs, dips, dips swing, tiger bend, T-push ups on reverse push. These exercises are easy to perform and mighty effective. They can really constrict one?s muscle to a great extent and provide exuberance of energy and power in muscles.

Pulling

Pulling is mostly concerned with the upper part of body, like biceps, chest, wings, etc. Pulling includes numerous exercises which are immensely beneficial if you are looking for muscle building without weights. Here are some of the major exercises which we can safely include under this title of pulling. These are pull-ups, one hand pull-up, fingertip pull-ups, commando pull-ups, towel pull-ups, lever pull-ups, kipping pull-ups. Most of these exercises can be done on a tree branch, rope or monkey bar. One thing which must be borne in mind while doing all these stunts is that one should concentrate on the muscle which he or she is pulling to make stronger.

There are also some other useful exercises like hands, necks and ply metrics, etc. which could be helpful as well at times. After going through all the major exercises, the question whether muscle building without weights can be achieved or not is answered. Go ahead with a home exercise plan and enjoy a strong healthy toned body.

Special Gear Considerations for Winter Backpacking

Backpacking in winter brings several challenges. The cold weather and snowy or icy terrain present special issues for backpackers. Probably the most important aspect to consider for winter backpacking is clothing. Many times a person will go about dressing for cold weather in the wrong manner. If you follow the guidelines below you will find that you can dress warmly and still be comfortable.

The key is that you dress for the elements. You need to consider the cold temperatures, the chilling wind and the snow. You will need clothing pieces that are resistant to both wind and snow. You will also need to make sure you wear an inner layer of clothing that will insulate, but also absorb sweat and dry quickly. You should dress in a few lightweight layers instead of trying to dress in bulk. You will find you move easier in lighter weight clothing, plus you will find that it is easier to regulate your body temperature because you can remove one thin layer at a time. You have much more control when you can remove a fraction of clothing verses removing a large bulky piece that will dramatically change your body temperature.

Other important items are hats, socks, gloves and boots. You should avoid cotton material for hats, socks and gloves. Cotton does not insulate, or repel water and it takes forever to dry. You should bring along an extra pair of socks in case the ones you are wearing get wet. Change them immediately to avoid frostbite. Your hat should keep your body heat in and keep the wind off your face. Your boots are also important. If they do not fit you will not have a good trip. Make sure you get the right size. They need to be comfortable, and make sure they are waterproof.

Besides clothing you should also consider some other items that can make a winter backpacking trip safer and easier. Snow poles are great gear that help you stay steady on snowy terrain. The best types of snow pole are those that can be adjusted. An ice axe is another useful tool that can help you along the trail. A snow shovel can also come in handy, especially if you get stranded or caught in an avalanche. Trail makers are another good item to have. It doesn't matter how well you know the area, when everything is covered in white snow it looks very different than usual. It is easy to get lost in this snowy terrain, and trail makers can help you stay on course.

In summary, winter backpacking is a whole new adventure. Places you have visited many times suddenly become a different place. It is definitely more challenging to backpack in the winter, but you will often find that those who have tried it thoroughly recommend it. Just be sure you have the essential winter backpacking gear with you.

Through the activity, governments are able to convert to cash the asset or property they have acquired legally. Many people are interested and excited about buying homes during such transactions because they find these homes priced practically.

It also follows that the homes auctioned by the government are quality houses whose values are definitely at premium or more than the tag prices attached to them through the auction process.

Here are some useful tips that could help you buy the perfect home during government auctions for seized houses.

1. Seek the advise of experts. In this case, brokers or home agents will be the principal people you should deal with. The setback would be, that you have to pay them commission, making the acquisition price seem more.

2. If you do not want to seek the help of agents or brokers or you simply do not want to pay commissions, rely on yourself and follow your instincts. Buying such houses would definitely not fall different from buying commodities or things at shops and department stores.

3. Inspect the overall features of the house and find all the obvious flaws and ruins. That would make for significant discounts. Also consider the location of the house. If the location is easily accessible, then higher pricing is justified. Otherwise, haggle and point out the location factor.

4. As much as possible stick to practical prices. Some government auctions are like bidding when the highest bidder gets the prize. Since the times are hard, those days are almost not happening anymore.

5. Arrange for payments, whether it be in cash, in cheques, or in installment terms. Remember, you are dealing with the government, so expect the legalities and documentary aspects of the transaction to be really meticulous and tedious.

Buying homes during government auctions would not be a hard task, if you would only open up your mind and maintain focus. The name of the game is always focus, so do not lose it when you see your dream house. Keep your eyes on the house, and the tag price as well, and you would not go astray.

Have You Lost Track Of Your Family Time?

Back in the '50s, families gathered around the dinner table (and often the breakfast table) to eat and talk and catch up with each other. Today, it's rare that a family finds the time and circumstances to gather together for a meal. Johnny has basketball practice. Suzi is freshman class president. Dad's working late. Mom's trying to catch up with a week's worth of errands. Life is more hectic and stressful than ever before.

The impact all these activities can have on a family are often the opposite of their intented purpose. When we work long hours at the office, we're working to provide our families with all those things we didn't have when we were children. When we involve our children in numerous activities, we want them to have a world of positive experiences designed to help them grow up to be happier, healthier adults. These are the best of intentions. But sometimes we overlook the most important foundation of any healthy family ... the time we spend together.

If you feel like your family is perpetually running on high octane with everyone heading in a different direction, here are some suggestions that might help you to start thinking about your family time in new ways ...

1. Take up an activity or two that the family can do as a whole. For instance, join a family bowling league or put aside Saturdays for one-day trips to explore the nearby towns, parks, museums, etc.

2. Set aside an evening or two each week when everyone is home together. This can be designated as the family night and it can be spent playing games, or reading great stories outloud to the group, or even watching a movie together as long as there's some interaction and discussion time when it's over. This little bit of quality time together can create a family tradition that you'll all cherish for years to come.

3. Set aside two or three days each week that will be television-free days. This encourages family members to spend time interacting with one another.

4. Whenever possible, do things together. Eat as a family. Plan trips as a family. Build puzzles, play games, go grocery shopping.

5. Do family chores in teams instead of individually. Mom and Suzi can change the linens on Saturday morning, while Dad and Johnny clean out the garage. Then once a week or once a month, shift the teams around so that eventually everyone will be teamed up with each other family member. One of the best ways to open family communication and come away with a sense of pride and accomplishment is by working together.

The more time you spend together as a family, the more your children will come away with the values and ethics you want them to pick up from you. They'll learn to be more responsible, to laugh more often, to be confident and caring, to be giving and grateful. And they'll discover you aren't a perfect parent, but they'll also discover you aren't an old fuddy-duddy who doesn't have a clue.

Make the time to be with your family. There's nothing more precious in this lifetime than them.

Toxic Hazards Linked to Plastic Baby Bottles. What is Your Baby Really Consuming?

What you need to know about plastic before you use one more baby bottle

A common plastic used to make baby bottles is polycarbonate plastic. Studies from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Consumers Union and researchers at Nagasaki University in Japan show that when baby bottles made with polycarbonate plastic are heated a hormone-disrupting chemical called, bisphenol-A (BPA), is released. That hormone leaches into the milk in the bottle. The same scientists found that used bottles leached up to double the amount of chemicals as new bottles because the plastic is less stable than in new bottles.

Bisphenol - A is an artificial estrogen and researches have known for years that it is harmful to animals and humans alike, especially during fetal development. Scientists have found and presented the dangers of BPA to the Environmental Protection Agency, who hasn't yet banned it from the market place despite the health risks that have been identified. The dangers include decreased sperm production in males, prostate hyperplasia -- excessive growth of prostate tissue, early onset of puberty, chromosome damage in female ovaries and a variety of behavioral changes.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), is another common plastic used to make baby bottles. It is the most toxic plastic to human health and the environment. PVC has been linked to IQ deficiencies, learning disabilities, impaired hearing, and reduced attention spans, as well as other behavior problems.

In general plastics like Tupperware and other storage containers that are commonly made with polycarbonate plastic or polyvinyl chloride are a dangerous place to store food, therefore use glass containers instead. Plastic containers leach toxic chemicals into the items they store, like the food that you eat. The dangers further increase when food is heated in these plastic containers, since the heat breaks down the plastic and destabilizes it, thus increasing the release of toxic chemicals into your food. An even more dangerous situation is heating food in plastic containers in the microwave; this further accelerates the release of toxic chemicals into the contents of the container. So, just don't do it.

Safety concerns behind plastic pacifiers, teethers and nipples

Beware of, plastic pacifiers, teethers, and nipples because they can be made with materials that contain phthalates. Phthalates is a commonly used chemical that is found in nail polish, make up, soft plastics and much more. Because it is fat soluble it collects in fatty tissue of humans where it is stored. It is absorbed through the skin, lungs and by ingesting. It has adverse health affects in the liver, the kidneys, the lungs and the reproductive system. It has been associated with premature breast development in young girls, adverse effects on genital development in male children, as well as reduced sperm count in adult males.

Take caution because infants receive large doses of these chemicals because they spend most of their time indoors and breathe, metabolize, and ingest faster than adults do. Furthermore, these plastics are found in many household products, cosmetics, vinyl and toys. Additionally, food is contaminated by these chemicals through packaging.

So what do mom's do to solve this problem and protect their babies from exposure to plastic?

* Use glass bottles and silicon nipples. To protect baby from glass shards when using a glass bottle be sure to dispose of the bottle if it is at all chipped or damaged in anyway. Glass bottles can be found at Amazon.com, Babysupermall.com or Medela.com.

* When baby is old enough to hold the bottle then switch to a plastic bottle made with polyethylene or polypropylene they have the recycle #'s 1, 2, 4 or 5 on the bottle. Gerber, Evenflo and Rubbermade all make these kinds of bottles so they will be easy to find. Stay with the silicone nipples. Make sure that the bottle and nipples don't have any cracks where bacteria can live. If they do don't buy them or throw them into the trash.

* Don't purchase the bottles that have decorations on the inside of the bottle as they leach off into babies milk.

* Never heat babies formula or any bottle in the microwave!!! If you are using a plastic bottle you are accelerating the leaching of chemicals into babies formula but you are also destroying and breaking down the nutritional value of the formula.

* Don't heat formula in the plastic bottle even when heating in a pan of hot water. Instead heat formula in a non-Teflon pan and then poor it into the bottle when it is warm not hot. (Teflon when heated gives off carcinogens, and is linked to birth defects. It is found in 95% of humans. The dangerous chemical found in Teflon is not going to be used after 2015.)

* How do you know if nipples are silicone? Silicone nipples are clear not yellow/amber plastic. Silicone lasts longer than plastic nipples. Avent Slow Flow Nipple and Dr. Brown's Sampler Pack Standard Silicone Nipples 3-Pack can be found at Amazon.com. When buying, be sure to check the nipple carefully for cracks where bacteria can live. If there are cracks don't buy the nipple. On a regular basis check nipples that you already bought for cracks throw them away immediately when they are cracked. Before each use sterilize the nipples by washing them in soapy warm water or putting them in the dishwasher. This is also the rule of thumb for safe pacifiers, teethers and baby bottles whether plastic or glass.

Congratulations on another toxic problem overcome. Together we can make a difference in our children's lives and our future generation's lives. Let's leave the earth for the children a little better than we found it.

Tandem Jogging Strollers Revealed

Parents of twins or two small toddlers don't need to miss out on the convenience of jogging strollers. Many manufacturers make tandem jogging strollers that provide much of the same convenience as single jogging strollers. Pushing around two children also has the advantage of giving you a better workout!

There are two basic flavours of tandem jogging strollers, the seats can be positioned side-by-side or one in front of the other. The biggest problem with the side-by-side design is their width, they may be difficult to manouver around the grocery store aisles.

On the other hand, if your children are seated one in front of the other the one in the back my like to kick and pull the hair of the one in front. This design is much narrower but some parents can't put up with the squabbles that this seating invites. Knowing the temperament of your children will help you to pick the appropriate style.

The other big consideration when buying a tandem jogging stroller is whether the front wheel swivels or not. Fixed front wheel designs are perfect for serious joggers because they require very little effort to steer on long straightaways. When you have to make a sharp turn, however, the front wheel has to be popped in the air, and this can be a major inconvenience in those grocery store aisles.

Swivel front wheels are a good compromise because they can be locked in position for jogging and released when you need to steer around tight spots.

The size of the wheels is also something to consider. 12 wheels are not suitable for rough terrain so if you plan on jogging on grass or gravel get a tandem jogging stroller with at least 16 inflatable wheels.

Other features to look for include storages areas, brakes, and covers. Most jogging strollers have a tray under the seats for carrying extra gear, but you may also need pockets for cell phones, keys, and toys. There should be a hand brake for quick stops when jogging and a parking brake is also convenient.

Some jogging strollers come complete with rain covers while others have them available as accessories. Whether or not you need them depends on your climate and jogging habits.

A Review of Camping Heaters

Have you done any camping recently? What have you been doing lately anyway? When we are talking about fighting with the wilderness, there are so many things we should get to make nature more welcoming and cozy. Actually this is how I personally feel about it. To make myself feel comfortable in the wilderness I need anything from water-proof tents, to portable showers, campfire grills and camping heaters. I could go on but what matters is for you to determine what is the one thing you cannot live without when it comes to that bout with the wilderness.

I couldn't survive without my knife. It might be a little old-school but a knife is a must for me. You can surely find online everything you need for a fun and exciting camping adventure. How often do you take camping trips? Do you venture off on a camping once a year or you do it all year round? I regret to say that nowadays for my family it has become an annual thing, though we used to do it much often before. Now it is extremely hard to get away from work, school and other family functions so that you can enjoy spending some time in the wilderness.

Personally I have never been taking lots of camping supplies, it is evident that we've added quite a lot to our backpacks these days. Of course, my wife is to take the blame for that as she doesn't really like being outdoors. When we take a camping trip I know she will certainly take one thing- her modern camping heater. Have you ever heard of this item before? The truth is that camping heaters have been on the market for a while. However, they were only used in ice fishing tents. Despite that, my wife has to have it when we are camping. She is definitely the cold-blooded in our family as she is always shivering while I am sweating.

Thus, we have to take all the right supplies for our camping trips. I have to admit that my wife has to take that camping heater also because I insist on having our camping during the autumn or the winter when the weather is pretty chilly. In case you are not aware of it, camping in the cooler seasons is the best. There are no bugs and no poison ivy. So, if you are planning a camping tour consider my advice. If you don't know what supplies you might need or where to get them from, just hop online and search the Internet for camping heaters, tents, portable showers and so on. Get online and find the best deals.

Understanding DSL Internet Service

DSL or Digital Subscriber Line is a type of broadband Internet connection. This type of broadband Internet requires you to have a phone line. Unlike dial up, you can actually use the phone while you are connected to the internet.

What are the benefits of a DSL Internet connection?
DSL allows you to have faster internet connection than a dial up. It can offer faster access to information, faster downloads and much more.

Here are some of the benefits you can get from a broadband DSL Internet service.

Unlike dial ups, DSL allows a subscriber to make and receive phone calls while having an active internet connection. Dial up internet does not allow this, if someone calls you, your phone line will be busy. A DSL line also keeps your computer online as long as your computer is turned on.

With DSL you can talk to your friends, family or business associates with a web cam in real time. You can easily connect a microphone, web cam on your computer, and start using these accessories right away. This may be possible in some dial up, but since it has low speed, the data sent and received will usually be delayed or choppy.

Since you can actually use your voice in the internet in real time, you no longer need to call families and friends using expensive long distance calls from your traditional phone.

DSL also enables you to use VoIP technology. This technology virtually replaces your traditional phone with the internet. VoIP has free features your traditional phone company consider as additional features and chargeable.

Video Conferencing
Caller ID
Call Forwarding
Call Transfer
Call Waiting
Ringtones
Voice Mails
Free Long Distance Calls

These are just examples that VoIP offers and a lot more features are available.

Since you can conduct video conferencing, you no longer have to travel to meet with your business associates, therefore, saving you from travel expenses.

Another benefit from DSL internet is that you can play audio and video streams in the internet smoothly and without interruptions. You can now play your favorite internet radio stations while you surf the web or play your favorite music videos in the internet.

Playing online games that requires high-speed internet is now possible with the DSL internet. You can use your own PC or gaming consoles such as the PS2 or Xbox to play with other people from around the world and create an online community with adventure games.

Students can also improve their studies by using the DSL connection. Since DSL provides high-speed internet connection, students can now research more webpage that are required for their studies.

In dial ups, low speed internet connection restricts a student's research to just a few webpage. This is because in dial up, loading webpage is too slow that a student will just stick to one or two websites to save time and money to do their research.

Online businesses can update their websites much faster in DSL than in dial up. Updating website for online businesses is crucial to inform their customers about the products they are selling.

Today, there are many DSL service providers in the market; choosing one is up to you. Research about the companies that provides this service before you buy their service and you can be sure about the quality of the DSL connection.

Ask your friends and family first who have this technology in their homes or businesses can also help you choose which DSL provider you want to work with.

Tips For Choosing The Right Camping Backpack

A person who is not experienced with camping or hiking may think that all backpacks are the same, but that is far from the truth. For a camper who is serious about making the most out of a camping trip, a backpack can make or break an excursion to the woods.

Take the plight of a trekker who traveled to the Appalachians in 1994. Rather than a thrilling camping expedition, he needed to return home injured from the weight of an ill-fitted backpack that damaged his hips. A decade later, the same hiker, utilizing a backpack more suited to his needs, walked over 950 miles of terrain, turning what could have been another ugly experience into a more pleasant memory.

There are a few key tips you should bear in mind when selecting a backpack for the outdoors.

First, you need to assemble a fairly comprehensive list of gear you need to bring on the trip. Whereas some campers prefer to haul a bare minimum, others like to be well equipped and ready for almost any eventuality. Consequently, the size of your backpack is important. If you intend to camp or hike for several days - or even simply overnight -you need a sufficient amount of supplies to cover your time and prospective needs.

Second, make sure your backpack is comfortable to wear for a lengthy period of time. The best styles of backpacks distribute the weight in the bag evenly so that you can wear it comfortably for a few hours while hiking. Try it on at the store to ensure it meets your need. Some camping stores even provide weights inside so you get the full effect of the backpack. By placing these in the pack, you can walk around the store to get a sense of how well the weight distributes and how much you can actually hold while remaining comfortable and not overly straining your back or shoulders.

Third, select a frame for the backpack. You can choose between an internal and external frame, each of which has advantages and disadvantages. Internal frames are more slender and allow the pack to remain close to your body which makes it great for densely wooded and more narrow trails. They do not restrain your ability to move in the least, but are admittedly more cumbersome to load and sometimes do not hold as much gear.

External frames, on the other hand, are great for clear walking paths and wider trails and are generally easier to pack. However, they tend to restrict mobility because they are larger and less flexible, making them seem more uncomfortable at first. External frames are the best option, though, when buying a backpack for beginners or children.

Finally, when purchasing a backpack, take into consideration whether it is designed to work efficiently with weather sheets that help protect your pack against dew and rain. Also assess how attachments can be accommodated for your pack. Most backpacks have either rings or snap-ons (or both), allowing the convenient integration of accessories with your pack.

Finding a backpack doesn't need to be a challenge if you familiarize yourself with options ahead of time. By following these few tips, you should be able to purchase one that fits your budget and your camping experience needs, helping to make sure you have a wonderful adventure in the woods.

Are you looking for a home in Scottsdale, Arizona? Scottsdale has earned a reputation as an expensive community, one of affluence and sophistication. Unfortunately many people firmly believe that these traits come with a hefty price tag. Although this is often true, you may be surprised by your options.

Maybe you haven't figured out how much your can afford for a home. Some prospective buyers deliberately stay away from Scottsdale because they think prices are out of their reach, while others don't realize when they are in over their heads.

How exactly do you figure out how much you can afford for a mortgage? The formula many mortgage agents formerly suggested was that home owners' plan that their mortgage payment (including taxes and insurance) be about 30% of the total gross monthly earnings.

But times have changed and this formula doesn't always work for all buyers. This old computation method doesn't take into account the debt that most people carry in addition to their mortgage payments. Unlike the good old days, today, many of us owe on credit cards, as well as car, student, and personal loans.

A far better formula for calculating how much you can afford is to add up all of your monthly bills, and then plan that the total amount of debt with mortgage, insurance and taxes, then keep this total at 45% of your gross monthly income or less.

There are a number of mortgage options that give home buyers more choices. For instance, no interest loans allow buyers to pay against the principle only on the loan for a period of time. This is a great choice for anyone anticipating that their income may increase over the next few years.

Some of these mortgage options are great for buyers in the Scottsdale market. It gives them more opportunities to buy into more expensive home communities. The main caution of course is to not overextend yourself financially so that your home ownership becomes precarious.

Even though Scottsdale is an expensive community, there are still homes available at various price points. There are elegant yet affordable condominium communities, and older single family homes with great potential.

Owning a home in Scottsdale is an important step in planning for your financial future. Scottsdale is certainly a market that will continue to appreciate, and there is no better investment than real estate. Scottsdale also has traditionally been a very in demand community, which means this investment offers stability and growth.

With careful planning, you can find your perfect home in Scottsdale and not lose your shirt in the process.

Summer Days Are Happy Days

(ARA) - Summer -- the farmers markets are bursting with fresh fruits, heavenly herbs and vividly colored veg., all ripe and ready to drop into recipes. But the easiest summer food is food you dont have to cook. Instead of turning on the oven, reach inside your fridge for the best fruits and veg. of the summer.

I keep mine in sight -- easy to do with my Amana Easy Reach Plus refrigerator, where the fresh food section is on top. No need to dig in the bottom drawers to find my figs; with my Amana refrigerator, everything is right where I need it. Here are two of my favorite easy recipes. Enjoy.

Ice Pops

Its nice to have something cold and fruity in your hand when its a scorcher outside, and nothing beats ice pops. When I was a kid, my lovely Nan and granddad ran a village pub in Essex, England. Every year at the start of summer, they used to send me a huge box of about 200 ice pops. Wed store the pops in a big chest freezer outside the storage shed. This made me quite popular with the local kids -- so much so, in fact, that my supplies would dwindle quickly, so I started to make my own ice pops.

Heres all you need to make some of your own: Buy a couple of those cheap plastic ice pop sets -- you can find them in most kitchen shops. Reach into your fridge, pull out the freshest fruits you have, and squeeze the juice out of them.

Easier yet, dip into the ready-made apple juice, orange juice, pineapple juice or lemonade (I find cocktail combinations also work nicely for the adults -- hard cider makes really tasty ice pops!). You can even raid the kids juice boxes if you want; just use the fruitiest stuff you can find. Now, fill up the pop sets with your chosen juice and put the sticks in before freezing. But you dont have to run out to the storage shed to get them -- just keep the pops handy in your fridges freezer section.

Thats it! Youll be the most popular kid on the block, bar none. For a little variety, throw some fresh strawberries or bananas into your pops before freezing. Or, if youre having a party and want a delicious and attractive treat for your guests, add a few edible flowers such as violets or nasturtiums before freezing. Its a fantastic way to get creative with your pops and impress your mates.

The Easiest, Sexiest Salad in the World

Apart from being a great combination, this recipe is a constant success due to the common-sense marriage of salty Parma ham, milky buffalo mozzarella and sweet figs, which need to be of superb quality. The best figs to use are Italian, and the best time to buy them is from June to August, when theyre in season. Greek figs are also good; theyre in season from September to November. Or, if figs arent your forte, you can use fresh peaches instead.

Choose figs that look like theyre about to split their skins. Use green or black -- it doesnt matter. But do keep them fresh. I store figs and greens in my Amana humidity-controlled Garden Fresh crisper drawer. Its easy for me to see how many figs and greens I have left with the crisper drawers right at eye level.

I use a knife to crisscross the figs, but not quite to the bottom -- one fig per person is always a good start. Then, using your thumbs and forefingers, squeeze the base of the fig to expose the inside. This will allow your dressing to get right into the middle of the fig.

Simply place the figs in a dish, wave around one slice of Parma ham or prosciutto per fig, throw in some slices of buffalo mozzarella, rip over some leaves of green or purple basil and drizzle everything with a heavenly dressing. I use a honey and lemon dressing concoction -- just mix six tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, three tablespoons lemon juice, and a tablespoon of honey with a little sea salt and fresh ground pepper. Serve with some spare bread on the table to mop up the juices.

There you have it -- easy, simple, fresh and seasonal. Always a treat, especially if you top it off with ice pops for dessert.

Healthy After School Snacks that Kids Love ARA(ARA) - After a busy day at school, the first thing kids want when they walk in the door is something to eat. Sometimes, they cant even wait that long -- kids who ride the bus need a healthy, packable snack they can stash in their backpacks and carpooling parents need a portable snack kids can eat enroute.

Filling the bill for a healthy, tasty and easy-to-pack snack is a tall order. Lots of snacks appeal to kids, but arent healthy. Or theyre healthy, but hard to take along. One easy alternative is pretzels. The good news is pretzels arent just fun to eat, theyre also low fat and relatively low in calories.

Now, Snyders of Hanover has made pretzels an even better choice. In the past year, theyve reformulated their pretzels to replace partially hydrogenated soybean oil with Canola oil.

Our research and development efforts are dedicated to providing products that satisfy our customers' desires for both good taste and healthier snack alternatives. In fact, most of our pretzel products have been trans fat free since 2002, says Claude O'Connor, vice president of marketing and sales at Snyder's of Hanover. We support the FDA's new regulations that will better inform consumers about the ingredients of the foods they enjoy.

Pretzels have been a popular snack choice for ages. They were invented around 610 A.D. in Southern France or Northern Italy. Historians believe the pretzel made its way to America on the Mayflower in 1620. Local lore has it that the hard pretzel was invented when a bakers apprentice fell asleep while baking soft pretzels. When he awoke, the fire in the hearth had died down and he figured the pretzels hadnt been baked long enough. He fired up the furnace again, baking them twice as long as normal. When the master baker discovered this, he was outraged at the ruined pretzels -- until he ate one out of curiosity. He discovered they were crisp, crunchy and delicious. He was also pleased to discover that the new hard pretzels retained their freshness much longer.

Today, the center of pretzel history in America still resides in Pennsylvania, where the first commercial bakery was founded in 1861. Pretzels have come a long way since that sleepy apprentices time. They come in all shapes and sizes, flavored and unflavored, salted and unsalted. Synders of Hanover offers dozens of pretzel varieties to suit all tastes.

Parents will appreciate the companys new Lunch Packs, which contain eight 1.5-ounce packages of either Pretzel Snaps or Sticks. These convenient packages make it easy to include them in your childs lunch, or to simply toss in his backpack for an afternoon snack. Theyre also easy to stash in your glove compartment for any time the munchies strike.

Look for Sydners pretzels at your local supermarket. For complete nutritional information and a list of products, visit www.snydersofhanover.com.

Shaping Up Holiday Side Dishes ARA(ARA) - If dinner rolls and bread are usually guests at your holiday table, you can save a step and impress your guests by substituting savory stuffing loaves, muffins or balls. Molded stuffing is a tempting two-in-one side dish that is easy, too, since convenient packaged stuffing mix is the perfect foundation from which to start your adventure.

Wowing your guests this way isnt a new idea, but rather based on a very old, tried-and-true one. The archives that span 60 years of recipes from Mrs. Cubbisons Foods are full of stuffing balls, loaves and muffins from the early days when the company began publishing its recipes for home cooks. The company was started in the early 1900s by the late Sophie Cubbison -- an outstanding cook who invented packaged stuffing mix.

Although these recipes take just minutes to make, because they are so interesting looking and tasting and different than what we traditionally serve today, they are showstoppers that draw oohs and ahhs from guests around the holiday table, said Leo Pearlstein, a longtime friend of Sophie Cubbison, who now serves on the companys board of directors.

Convenience is important for todays cooks who want to emulate antique recipes to the delight of their holiday guests, but who dont have time to slave over a hot stove. There has been a boon in sales of packaged homemade-style croutons in recent years from popular companies like Mrs. Cubbisons Foods (prepared from freshly baked bread that is lightly toasted and perfectly seasoned, they are based on recipes invented by Sophie Cubbison in the early 1900s).

Our holiday side dish soiree includes stuffing muffin, loaf and ball recipes from Mrs. Cubbisons Foods archives dating from the 1950s followed by a distinctive salad recipe:

Fig Stuffing Loaves

2 (6-ounce) bags of Seasoned Cornbread Stuffin

1 cup melted butter or margarine

1 cup chopped celery, including leaves

1 orange, chopped, including peel (seeds removed)

1 cup chopped dried figs

2 eggs, well beaten

1 cup milk

Combine all ingredients and mix until well blended. Pack mixture into 8 small (4 1/2 by 2 1/2 by 1 1/2 inch) greased loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes, or until firm to the touch. Unmold and serve.

Yields 8 single-serving loaves.

Pumpkin Dressing Balls

1 (6-ounce) bag of Seasoned Dressing

1/2 cup melted butter or margarine

1 cup mashed fresh or canned pumpkin

1 teaspoon allspice

3/4 cups water

6 to 8 walnut halves

In a large bowl, combine stuffing mix with melted butter or margarine. In a separate small bowl, blend pumpkin with allspice. Add pumpkin mixture to stuffing, reserving about 2 tablespoons for garnish. Blend in water, mixing well, but lightly. Shape dressing into 6 or 8 balls and place in greased casserole. Top each with about a teaspoon of reserved pumpkin and place a walnut half in center of each. Cover tightly with aluminum foil. Bake at 325 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes, or until firm.

Yields 6 to 8 dressing balls.

Apricot Stuffing Muffins

1 (6-ounce) bag of Seasoned Cornbread Stuffin

1/2 cup melted butter or margarine

3 eggs, well beaten

1 1/2 cups chicken broth

1/2 cup crumbled crisp bacon

3/4 cup chopped dried apricots

In a large bowl, combine stuffing mix with melted butter or margarine, eggs, broth, bacon and 1/2 cup of the chopped apricots. Spoon mixture into 12 greased muffin cups. Top each muffin with a sprinkling of the remainder of chopped apricots. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes, or until firm. Cover muffins with aluminum foil if chopped figs on top brown too quickly.

Yields 12 stuffing muffins.

Spicy Cranberry Salad with Feta Crust

1 (6-ounce) box of garlic-flavored croutons

1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil

1/4 cup feta cheese

3 cups mixed greens

3/4 cup dried cranberries

1/2 cup chopped celery

1/2 cup chopped Granny Smith apple, with peel

Italian salad dressing, to taste (approximately 1/4 to 1/2 cup)

Finely crush croutons. In a medium bowl, add croutons, olive oil and feta cheese. Combine well. Divide into six portions. Take each portion and mold as crusts into six individual small salad bowls. In a large bowl, combine mixed greens, dried cranberries, celery, apple and Italian dressing. Mix well. Place greens mixture in each salad bowl, slightly pressing greens into crust.

Yields 6 servings.

Help Your Teenager Get Organized For Back To School

You can create a better homework environment for your teenager by providing at least six feet of desk surface. The old three foot desks aren?t large enough to hold the computers, printers, cell phones and oh yes, the books, that are a daily part of your teenager?s school life. Teach them how to deal with their school papers, this skill will be used for the rest of their life.

Organizing Solutions For Teenagers Heading Back to School - Tips From a Professional Organizer

Educational tools have certainly changed in the last decade. The old three foot desks aren?t large enough to hold the computers, printers, cell phones and oh yes, the books, that are a daily part of your teenager?s school life.

Many older desks have a row of small shallow drawers and no space for hanging files. These inefficient small drawers usually become junk zones.

Create a better homework environment by providing at least six feet of desk surface. This space will accommodate a computer and leave a large open surface for book studies, homework and special projects. Make sure to leave at least 4 feet of open surface.

Keep the hard drive off of the desk surface as well as the keyboard and mouse if possible. Place the hard drive below the desk and off to the side. Use a keyboard tray. If the desk doesn?t come with a keyboard tray, purchase it separately and install it under the existing desktop.

Stagger two?three shelves above the desk opposite the computer. Shelves that are12 inches deep will fit three ring binders, dictionaries and the printer. The printer shelf will need a groove cut into the wall edge to accommodate the cables. These shelves will hold binders, textbooks and memorabilia without cluttering up the desk surface. U-shaped shelves that have side brackets built in help keep the larger books upright without the need for wobbly bookends.

Install the first shelf 8-10 inches above the desktop and the other shelves staggered above and to the sides of the centered shelf. The space below the lowest shelf will accommodate items used regularly.

If there is a telephone on the desk, mount it on the wall. If there is a cell phone, mount or place the charger off of the desk surface as well.

A small drawer for tape, scissors and pens along with a file drawer will complete the study area. Consider teaching your kids a filing system this year. This skill will be used for years.

A file drawer will help sort papers by subject. This is the perfect time to develop paper flow skills. Work with your child to create a file system that makes sense to them. Possible organizational categories for folders could be: by the subject, by the project, or simply homework completed, current projects etc. Make sure there are extra tabs and empty folders in this drawer so they can easily add new folders throughout the year.

Every summer sort through the file drawer with your child and purge the old papers to make way for new files the next school year. Developing the regular habit of purging old books and paperwork is an invaluable skill and worth the time and resistance you might encounter as you exercise this new habit.

Teach your child how to save and file warranties and manuals for all of the electronic gadgets they own. Again ? a valuable life skill to impart. Do this for your own records and lead by example. Staple the receipt into the front cover of the manual for easy access with warranty concerns.

Install a few hooks on the wall or a coat rack by the desk area to keep backpacks and other gear off the floor.

Help your teenage organize their backpack with plastic folders and small satchels for pens and discs.

There are amazing new organizational products designed specifically for school lockers. Check out all of the magnetic bins and discover all of the endless options for designing a custom locker space. Have fun shopping, you will be amazed at all of the options!

Why Buying Property in North Cyprus Makes Sound Financial Sense

Cyprus is a stunningly beautiful island, rich in natural resources, blessed with the inimitable Mediterranean climate and located close to the shores of Turkey. Cyprus is also a divided island, unique in that its capital city of Nicosia is the last divided capital city in the world.

The country of Cyprus is unique in another way too, back in 2004 the citizens of North Cyprus voted yes to reunification and to this day efforts are being made to reunite the Northern third of the island with the Southern two thirds. All Cypriot citizens have lived in peace for so long that it is seen as only a matter of time before some form of settlement to rejoin the two sides of the island is found.

In the meantime Southern Cyprus is in the European Union, it is about to join the Euro Zone and adopt the Euro as its official currency while only the citizens of Northern Cyprus are classed as European - their land and homes are not actually considered to be in Europe!

This slightly bizarre and unusual situation has created something of a short term opportunity for property investors astute enough to realise that property in Southern Cyprus, because it is in Europe and because it is on such a beautiful Mediterranean island, is selling for a healthy premium and actually increasing in value annually.

At the same time property in Northern Cyprus is as well constructed, as well located and actually benefits from being in a less over developed and populated part of the island, and yet - property in Northern Cyprus sells for a third of the price of the exact same specification of property in the South!

Admittedly Southern Cyprus is far better developed then the Northern third of the island, it benefits from millions of Euros worth of assistance from the European Union every year, it has a well established tourism market and economically it is far stronger than Northern Cyprus. However, all this is beginning to change quite dramatically. Firstly the EU are giving millions of Euros worth of aid and assistance to Northern Cyprus for the improvements of its basic infrastructure, secondly the fledgling tourism market in North Cyprus is going from strength to strength as the nation successfully markets itself as the last unspoiled destination in the Med, and finally the wider world is starting to sit up and take notice of the fact that in North Cyprus you can buy a duplex apartment right on an international golf course, across the road from an unspoiled beach for just GBP 60,000!!!

Indeed, where else in the world can you find such a desirable commodity for such a low price? The answer is only in North Cyprus - but because economically North Cyprus is catching up with South Cyprus and because the government in the North are considering adopting the Euro as well, prices of property in the North will not remain so subdued for so long.

Those who have already bought villa and apartment property in Northern Cyprus are enjoying capital gains, they are enjoying rental income and above all else they are enjoying the stunning natural beauty of an island unspoiled by commerce and greed.

North Cyprus is exceptional, it is beautiful, it is affordable and it is not going to remain a secret for very much longer! Astute investors are getting in on the market now and buying investment properties as fly to lets and for the capital appreciation they know their assets will enjoy.

Rhiannon Williamson writes about real estate investment in emerging markets worldwide and specialises in property in North Cyprus. To read more North Cyprus Property Facts click here.
